Calcium chloride CaCl2 is available, cheap and has high drying and
ability, so it is widely used as a desiccant. Used
for drying hydrocarbons, halogen derivatives of hydrocarbons, simple
ethers, nitro compounds and many other substances. You can not use chloride
calcium to dry alcohols, phenols, amines, amino acids, amides and
the NITRILES of acids, ketones, and some aldehydes and esters, as
