Dark blue-green crystals or powder; soluble in water and slightly soluble in alcohol, disappears in dry air. Acetate of copper does not light, but colors the flame in pale green color. Molar mass: 199,67 g/mol. Density: 1,882 g/cm3. Melting point: 115 °C. boiling point: 240 °C. decomposition Temperature: 290 °C. the solubility (in g/100 g): ethanol: soluble 7,14 (20 °C).
Acetate of copper (II) is prepared by reacting a hydroxide of copper(II) with acetic acid:
Cu(OH)2 + 2CH3COOH = (CH3COO)2Cu + 2H2O
Carbonate copper (II) with acetic acid:
CuCO3 + 2CH3COOH = (CH3COO)2Cu + H2O + CO2
Mass fraction of base material (Cu(CH3COO)2 • H2O) shall not be less than 98 % (qualification "h") and 99 % ("analytical grade").
