The rebellious world, depicted by the author, is full of contradictions: terror and mercy, honor and betrayal, blind faith in the idea and remorse, the bloodshed and the triumph of the spirit - all of these problems grow to the scale of the world, enduring. However, the belief of the writer that the final change in society will occur through the regeneration of mankind from the inside, gives this large-scale narrative special charm and depth. No wonder fascinating work of Hugo, full of adventures and unexpected plot twists, referred to the historical masterpieces of the genre.
