Petrolatum (from Wed-century. Lat. Petroleum - crude oil) - a mixture of paraffin, ceresin wax and oil (7-38%) obtained by dewaxing of residual petroleum oils with sulfuric acid or selective treatment. It is a viscous light brown mass.
Used as raw material for the production of cosmetic ointments, petroleum jelly, as a component of insulation, cable mass, preservative and grease, etc..
The coating materials of the petrolatum provides a soft buttery hydrophobic film which has a low level of heat (up to 70-75 C) and abrasion. In this regard, it is used mainly to protect the painted surfaces, as well as storage of spare parts, protection, steel body painted in high humidity conditions, the end treatment of wood, etc.
Widely used in electrical industry, as well as anti-friction lubricants (mechanisms for artillery systems, facilitate the descent of ships on water), filling and impregnation of capacitors.
