Petrolatum (from Ms.-century. Lat. Petroleum - oil) is a mixture of paraffin, ceresin wax and oil (7-38%) obtained by dewaxing of residual petroleum oils with sulfuric acid or a selective cleaning. It is a viscous light brown mass.
Used as raw material for the production of cosmetic ointments, petroleum jelly, as a component insulation, cable mass, preserving and grease etc.
Coating materials petrolatum provides a soft buttery hydrophobic film, which has a low level of heat (up to 70-75 C) and abrasion. In therefore it is used mainly to protect the painted surfaces, and also during the storage of spare parts, protection body painted steel in conditions of high humidity, the end treatment wood, etc.
Widely used petrolatum in the electrical industry, as well as antifriction greases (mechanisms for artillery systems, facilitate the descent of the ships), for casting and impregnation of capacitors.
