The sodium sulfite - chemical properties:
• a strong reducing agent;
• when dissolved in water is rapidly oxidized by oxygen;
• when heated aqueous solution of Na2SO3 interacts with sulfur, thereby forming sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3 or Na2SO3S).
The sodium sulfite - physical properties:
• appearance is powder white or slightly yellowish;
• mass fraction of Na2SO3 not less than 93% (technical); 94% and 97.5% (photographic 1st and highest grade, respectively);
• molecular weight - 126,037.
