Andre Style was born April 1, 1921 in the city of Ernie (the Department of Nord in the North of France) in the family of a craftsman. In 1933-1939 he studied at the Lyceum in Valenciennes. Taught in schools Annenskogo coal basin, where he also received the title of Professor of the College. During the Second world war A. the Style is an active member of the Resistance Movement. After the liberation of France in the years 1944-1950 it is on party work in the Department of the North, worked in the newspaper "liberté", edited by "Communist weekly". In 1950-1959, A. the Style editor in chief of the newspaper "l'humanité", then her literary reviewer. In may 1952 he was arrested for the article, calling the people of France to protest against the arrival in Paris of American General M. B. Ridgeway. In July of the same year, under public pressure, the French government was forced to release the writer. A candidate member and member of the Central Committee of the PCF (1950-1959).
In 1977 elected member of the Goncourt Academy.

Creativity
In 1949 she published the first book A. Style "Miners" ("the Word "Shakhtar" comrades") is a collection of stories about the strike struggle of the French miners. In the storybook ""Hay" out to sea" (1950), the trilogy "First strike" (1951-1953, was considered a model of the so-called "Roman Zhdanov") showed the struggle of the French people pativ American invaders, the war in Indochina, for peace and independence of France. (The second novel of the trilogy, "the story of the gun" was published in the magazine "New world", 1952, No. 8-9). Literary-critical book "socialist realism" (1952). In a subsequent cycle of works "the question of happiness" reflects different aspects of modern life: the war in Algeria, perestroika in the minds of young French people, overcoming feelings of ethnic hatred, the spiritual formation of the young man in the working environment, working solidarity.
