Oxytetracycline hydrochloride is an antibacterial drug in powder form, containing (in terms of dry substance) of at least 860 µg/mg of active substance (CB) - oxytetracycline hydrochloride.
The drug is a crystalline yellow powder, odorless, soluble in water (1:3).
Oxytetracycline hydrochloride is an antibiotic of the tetracycline group, produced by Streptomyces rimosus. Has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia, Salmonella, staphylococci, streptococci, rickettsiae, and certain types of mycoplasmas; no effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus, most fungi and small viruses.
- Method of application and doses: Oxytetracycline hydrochloride is used to treat respiratory bacterial infections, colibacillosis, salmonellosis, pasteurellosis, gastroenterocolitis in young farm animals, as well as mastitis, gynecological and other diseases of farm animals, pathogens which are sensitive to tetracyclines.
Before use, prepare a solution of the drug 1:10 entries for injection, or sterile isotonic sodium chloride. The solution for injection is prepared immediately prior to administration. The prepared solution is not subject to the storage and heating. The drug is administered intramuscularly at intervals of 10-12 hours for 5-7 days in the following doses (DV):
- calves up to 6 months of age and lambs under 4 months of age to 9 mg/kg of animal weight.
- pigs under 6 months of age to 12 mg/kg animal weight.
- cattle, swine over 6 months of age and small ruminants older than 4 months of age to 7 mg/kg weight of the animal.
Use of the drug inside the group with a mixture of conc. feed rate of 12-15 mg/kg of body weight of the animal.
