The surge vessels are designed to eliminate the influence on the measurement result of the height of the liquid column in the impulse line by maintaining a constant liquid level in the vessel relative to the measured variable level in the tanks when measuring manometer liquid level in the tanks as well as pressure drop or flow rate of fluids with temperatures over 100 °C to ensure equality of the densities of the liquid in the impulse lines.
