Ammonium chloride

Ammonium chloride (food additive E510) – white crystalline powder, odorless, soluble in water. Its aqueous solutions are slightly reaction. Get this chemical substance by – passing of carbon monoxide(VI) using a solution of ammonia and chloride sodium.

Chemical formula: NH4Cl.

The Egyptians called it "rusadir", hence, known and to this day the name "ammonia". In nature, ammonia occurs in the form of small scabs and raids, along with sulfur in caves, cracks in the earth's crust and about volcanoes. Anyway, in a small amount of ammonia helps to bring a person to life and to deduce from pre-existing conditions because vapours cause very strong stimulation of the respiratory centers. But inhale large quantities of ammonia are very dangerous, as it can cause cardiac breathing.

Before the ammonium chloride was used to treat bronchitis, as an expectorant. Now slabokonsolidirovannykh a solution of ammonia used in medicine as a diuretic. It is easily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and just as easily excreted by the kidneys, taking with him excess fluid.

In food industry it is used rarely. Although Finland and some Scandinavian countries used as a seasoning for food, and included with licorice candy.

Other uses of ammonium chloride:

- used for soldering and tinning of steel;

- as smoke-forming means (has this property, due to its volatility);

- in galvanic elements;

- in the agricultural industry as a fertilizer for neutral and alkaline soils, for crops that react poorly to large the amount of chlorine, for example, beets, rice, maize (rarely used).
