Tetrachloroethylene

Tetrachloroethylene (PERC) — a colorless liquid with a pungent odor.

Perchlorethylene belongs to the group of chlorinated solvents. Perchloroethylene is a colorless liquid almost insoluble in water.

Perchlorethylene is used:

· as the inert solvent, which is capable of dissolve a significant amount of organic substances (in this quality is most often used when performing dry cleaning of clothes in dry cleaners);

· tetrachloroethylene is used as a universal means for degreasing metal surfaces in mechanical engineering, in the field instrumentation (e.g. for degreasing of surfaces, including metal, for industrial washing machines);

· in textile industry (for example, leather tanning and fur) and the field of woodworking, with the production of CFCs and the various active dye;

· as a universal solvent in the processing of photopolymer printed boards, and the manufacture of needles for disposable syringes in the medical industry;

· perchlorethylene is used as one of the components compositions intended for flushing paints;

· as intermediate (a substance that is formed intermediate in the process of transformation of the reagents in the final products of the reaction);

· in the manufacture of halons;

· as intermediate when carrying out the reaction for producing trichloroacetic acid;

· perchlorethylene is used in the form of extragonadal agent in conducting removal of caffeine from coffee.
