Ammonium persulfate

Peroxodisulfate ammonium (ammonium persulfate, ammonium neccersarily) — ammonium salt peroxidizing acid with the formula (NH4)2S2O8 (according to the IUPAC nomenclature(NH4)2S2O6(O2)), colorless monoclinic crystals, soluble in water. In the food industry is known as a food additive Е923.

Is ammonium salt peroxidizing acid, strong oxidant, in the presence water decomposes with release of oxygen and ozone, dry stored indefinitely. In aqueous solutions, acidified with sulfuric acid, is decomposed into ammonium bisulfate and hydrogen peroxide. At temperatures above 120° With decomposes into ammonium sulfate and oxygen.

Density 1,982 g/cm3. Decomposition temperature 120° C.

Chemical formula: (NH4)2S2O8.

Peroxodisulfate ammonium is produced by electrolysis of a saturated solution of ammonium sulfate in sulfuric acid.

Used as an accelerator of polymerization, and condensation upon receipt synthetic rubbers, latexes, and plastics, as initiator of radical polymerization in the preparation of polyacrylamide gels, in the etching of printed boards, as the oxidizing agent in photography, as a means for bleaching and disinfection, in electron microscopy as a catalyst polymerization of the methacrylate components used for fill sections, analytical chemistry, etc.

In food industry ammonium persulfate is known as a food additive E923, which is used for improvement the quality of flour, bleach.

Persulfate ammonium (ammonium neccersarily) non-combustible, fire - and explosion-proof, but contributes to combustion of other substances. In the fire emit irritating toxic fumes. Contact with combustible substances is invalid because the substance is a strong oxidant and reacts with combustible materials and the reducing agents. Decomposes when heated with formation of toxic and corrosive fumes, including ammonia fumes, oxides of nitrogen and oxides of sulfur.

At the degree of impact on the body relates to the substances of the 3rd hazard class. Maximum allowable concentration is 0.1 mg/m3 in the air of working zone. The substance irritates the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Individual means protection when working with ammonium persulfate are respirators, safety glasses, rubber gloves, overalls.

Transporterowych all kinds of transport in accordance with the rules of cargo transportation, operating in this mode of transport.

Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry, ventilated area separately from substances that are incompatible for storage conditions. Containers should be protected from mechanical damages.
