Butylglycol

Butylglycol (2-butoxyethanol, butylcellosolve, monoborony live ethylene glycol, butylether) is a chemical compound with the formula C6H14O2, is glycol ether.

Butylglycol is high-boiling, low volatile liquid. It is highly soluble in alcohols, glycols, water, diethyl ether, chloroform, acetone and other solvents partially miscible with water.

Liquid is a solvent for alkyd resins, cellulose, acetates, nitrates. Add butylglycol in coatings reduces their viscosity and improves the fluidity. The substance is particularly effective as coalescing component paint and varnish water-based materials.

Technical butylglycol used as raw material for the synthesis of butalbarbital, plasticizers. A substance is a good tool for cleaning metals from varnishes and resins, is used as a component in hydraulic, lubricating and cooling liquids. Butylglycol recommended as a solvent for paints the basis of cellulose ethers, chlorinated binders, cellulose nitrate, applied brush. The base material enters into chemical reactions characteristic of alcohols, such as oxidation, esterification, formation of alkoxides, acetates. Outdoors due to exposure to oxygen forms peroxides.
