Sodium metasilicate (sodium silicate)
Metasilicate sodium - crystalline powder, gray, is a sodium salt of metasilicic acid, and is a hydrated alkaline sodium silicate.
Chemical formula: Na2SiO3 anhydrous, paliwody Na2SiO3 × 5H2O, deviational Na2SiO3 × 9Н2О. Sodium metasilicate is a crystalline powder of white or grey colour, well dissolves in water to form crystalline hydrates, the air absorbs carbonic acid and water.
Aqueous solution of Na2SiO3 ("liquid glass") - a clear, thick, colorless or slightly yellow liquid, having a strongly alkaline reaction. The reagent in solution is highly decomposed by acids (even carbon dioxide of the air) with the release of the gelatinous precipitate of silicic acid. The Na2SiO3 solution should be stored in vessels rubber tubes, as the glass and cork are strongly glued to the neck.
Metasilicate sodium intended for the production of synthetic detergent preparations
Product melts at a temperature of 40-80°C, easily soluble in water. Aqueous solutions of sodium metasilicate are highly alkaline reaction, and its chemical the properties are identical to solutions of alkalis. By the action of acids in aqueous solutions sodium metasilicate is its decomposition with the release of silicon gel acid.
