Triethanolamine

 

Triethanolamine (HO-CH2CH2)3N — colourless liquid, miscible with waterin all respects, a weak base.

Triethanolamine (Tea) is an organic compound which is simultaneously with a tertiary amine and an alcohol with three alcohol groups. As other amines, triethanolamine is a weak base. It is a colorless connection, sometimes with a yellowish tinge due to impurities.

This the substance is widely used in the paint industry, construction, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and other industries. With it produce the following materials:

– cement (acts a bunch of synthetic and natural components, slows down/speeds up hardening);

– corrosion inhibitors, pH regulators and surfactants (in this role is distributed in the creation of various technical washes and cooling-lubricating compounds);

– household chemicals (liquid detergent, dishwashing tools, polishing...);

– tools hygiene (cleansing lotions, milks and creams, including sunscreens, foam shaving, shampoos...);

– cosmetics (blush, mascara, eye shadow, eyeliners);

– perfumes;

– drugs external application of emulsion structure and saline injections;

polymers (plasticizer);

– rubber products, such as gloves (acts as a lubricant);

– solvents;

– herbicides;

– textiles;

– colors.

Used the compound in the chemical industry, where with his help synthesize trinitrate triethanolamine and nitrogen mustard, as well as for absorption of acid gases.

Triethanolamine is mainly used as emulsifier and surfactant. It is often used in the compositions used for industrial and consumer products. Tea neutralizes fatty acids, adjusts the pH and solubilize fats and other substances which do not dissolve in water. It is added as a component in liquid detergents for Laundry and dishwashing; General cleaning products, cleansers for hands and nails; cutting fluids; oils for shave and paint for printing.

Triethanolamine is also used as organic additive in cement mortars. This facilitates grinding and prevents agglomeration of the components of the cement.

It is widely used in cosmetics and medicine. In pharmaceutics, triethanolamine is the active ingredient of some ear drops.
