Orthophosphate sodium Е339

Е339 (sodium phosphate) is a food additive used as a regulator acidity, emulsifier, stabilizer, water-retaining agent. In addition this Supplement Е339 locks coloration products and enhances the action antioxidants.

The name "sodium Phosphates" is a General term for salts of hydroxide sodium and phosphoric acid. Physical properties, sodium phosphates are crystalline or granular powder white. Supplement Е339 soluble in water and thermally stable.

In the food industry used 3 kinds of sodium phosphates:

· (Supplement Е339і) - ortho-sodium phosphate 1-substituted with the chemical formula NaH2PO4;

· (Supplement Е339іі) - ortho-sodium phosphate 2-substituted with the chemical formula Na2HPO4;

· (Supplement Е339ііі) - ortho-phosphate of sodium 3-substituted with the chemical formula Na3PO4.

Industrial scale additive Е339 is produced by interaction phosphoric acid with sodium hydroxide or soda ash.

In the food industry additive Е339 can be used in such products, such as bakery and confectionery products (leavening agent), soft drinks, dairy products (including powdered milk, dry cream), soups, broths, pasta, sauces, teas (dried and instant), cheese, meat and fish products, fast food, etc. in addition, phosphates are used as salt-melters in the production of processed cheese.

The sodium phosphates used to be commonly used in various washing powders and detergents. However, since 1960 the use of sodium phosphate in washing powders began to be banned in many countries for reduce eutrophication of water bodies.

Sodium phosphate is the main active ingredient of the medicinal product, which acts as a laxative. Therefore, we can conclude that it is not get to much involved in the consumption of products laced with Е339, because it can lead to disruption of the normal functioning of the intestine.

There is a perception that frequent consumption of products containing orthophosphate sodium Е339 leads to changes in metabolism mineral salts in the human body. In addition, Е339 provokes the leaching of calcium from bones and teeth that also negatively affect the General the state of human health. Depressing effect on the digestive system, causes frequent stomach disorders, disorders of the chair.
There is also information that the permanent the use of sodium orthophosphate becomes one of the factors in the development of cancerous tumors is considered to be carcinogenic.
Safe daily dose use for man is not described.

In Ukraine, the European Union allowed the use of sodium phosphates as a dietary Supplement Е339.
