Aerosil (fumed silica, white carbon, silicon dioxide))
Aerosil is a very easy micronized powder with pronounced adsorption properties. Prepared by reacting a gaseous silicon tetrachloride with water vapor. Valuable filler for rubbers (especially silicone). In addition, it is used for preparation of various lubricants, paints and varnishes, to stabilize suspensions. Thickening ability aeroforce used in the production of gels for ointment bases. Adsorption properties are used for the purpose of stabilization of dry extracts (reduced their hygroscopicity). In powders used in the manufacture of hygroscopic compounds and as a dispersant.
ACYL - superfine, highly active, amorphous, fumed silicon dioxide (chemical formula SiO2) obtained by flame hydrolysis of silicon tetrachloride (SiCl4) of high purity. Product fire - and explosion-proof, has no General toxic effect. Long-term observations show that when injected into the lungs Aerosil does not cause silicosis. Aerosil is a very clean non-porous amorphous silica with a particle size of from 5 to 40 nm. It is extremely light white powder, which in a thin layer appears translucent, bluish. The Aerosil particles form a physical flaky aggregates, so the amount of Aerosil in fact 98% air-filled: true if the density of SiO2 is 2.2 g/cm3, the apparent density of Aerosil - 40 - 60 g/L. Aerosil produced the following brands 175, 200, 300, and 380 in compacted and uncompacted form. The size of the Aerosil particles is 10-40 nm for brands 175, 200; 5-20 nm for grade 300; 5-15 nm for 380 brand. Aerosil has a very low thermal conductivity and is a valuable insulating material. It has good adsorption properties, especially to polar substances. The filler Aerosil found extremely versatile, which is completely based on such properties as the extremely small size of particles, their homogeneity, spherical shape and high degree of purity. From a chemical point of view, all the properties of Aerosil are determined by the presence on its surface silanol Si–OH and siloxane Si–O–Si groups. With the addition of Aerosil in liquid systems there is the effect of thickening that is particularly important in the manufacture of such products as lubricants, paints, varnishes, adhesives
