Kaolin – exogenous or sedimentary rock, it is also white clay, almost entirely composed of a clay mineral of the kaolinite – Al2Si2O5(OH)4.
Due to the high refractoriness, chemical inertness, dispersion and low dielectric constant, kaolin is one of the most versatile types of mineral resources used as raw and fortified.
Beneficiation of kaolin raw materials promotes the homogeneity of the composition and stability of technological properties of the material, improves the quality of the products.
Kaolin is a versatile filler that allows the use of a mark in several fields of industry.
Large volumes use of enriched kaolin:
- in the paper industry (35-40%);
- the manufacture of ceramics (30-35%) – it is an essential component of porcelain-faience industry (production of household, electrical, porcelain and sanitary-building, economic and technical faience).
As a filler kaolin is used in the production:
- plastics;
- rubber;
- artificial leather;
- tissues;
- linoleum;
- pencil leads;
- soap;
- in the composition of cosmetic and toilet pastes, creams, ointments and powders.
In pharmaceutical manufacturing a well-cleaned kaolin is an inert binding agent for many therapeutic drugs.
