Iron chloride 6-water
FeCl3·6H20 — soft crystalline mass or pieces of yellow-brown color.
Ferric chloride — the average salt ferric and hydrochloric acid. This is chemical raw materials is a soft crystalline mass of rusty-brownish black color. Boiling temperature is 319°C, melting point was 309°C. Ferric chloride is formed by heating iron with chlorine. It to also as a byproduct in the production of titanium chloride TiCl4 and aluminum chloride AlCl3. Another method of obtaining ferric chloride – hot chlorination or oxidation of FeCl2 solution with subsequent evaporation of the solution FeCl3.
The scope of application of chlorine iron is quite wide. It is used as a coagulant for water purification, as catalyst in organic synthesis, as a mordant in the dyeing process, fabrics, as well as for the preparation of iron pigments and other iron salts.
Wide enough distribution of ferric chloride was obtained as a coagulant in the process treatment of industrial and municipal wastewater. Compared to other coagulants, particularly aluminium sulphate, this chemical product has an important advantage – chloride of iron endowed with high deposition rate a variety of impurities. In the process of education are captured by various organic and inorganic impurities, thus forming loose flakes which can be easily removed from the treated effluent. Such flakes, density 1001-1100 g/l and size 0,5–3,0 mm have a rather large surface with excellent sorption activity. In the process of their formation in the structure are included suspended matter (large microorganisms, cells plankton, silt, remains of plant), colloidal particles, and part of the ions of the contaminants associated on the surface of these particles. Using this product of the deposition process sludge flows much faster and deeper. Another advantage of ferric chloride - its favorable influence on the biochemical decomposition of sludge. For quality wastewater treatment per cubic metre is required 30 g of ferric chloride. Water purification ferric chloride reduces the content of soluble impurities up to 25 percent and insoluble to 95 percent. In the process of cleaning industrial and municipal waste waters toxic compounds and microorganisms destroyed by sodium hypochlorite.
Thanks to its bright pronounced acid properties, ferric chloride is used as catalyst in processes of organic synthesis, when obtaining heat-resistant resins and oxidation bitumen. Iron chloride is a vigorous chlorinating agent, so it used for selective extraction of some components of ores. In particular, this chemical raw material is required in the aromatic hydrocarbons to reactions of electrophilic substitution. It is also well known the use of water solutions of ferric chloride. Having a relatively soft etching properties they are used in electronic industry and instrument making for etching printed circuit boards, metal parts and copper foil.
Iron III chloride hexahydrate applies to:
• with it lightens natural water treatment systems;
• removes oil from the effluent fat and oil plants;
• it is used when cleaning wastewater from leather and fur enterprises from the chromium compounds;
• to mitigate drinking water;
• and also in organochlorine synthesis
• for etching of printed circuit boards in the electronics industry,
• instrumentation,
• as a starting substance for produce other compounds of Fe,
• as a component toning solutions photos
• as a mordant in dyeing fabrics
• industrial water treatment
