Hexane is a colorless, mobile, flammable liquid with a faint odor resembling dichloromethane, soluble in organic solvents, insoluble in water. This is a saturated linear hydrocarbon structure belonging to the class of alkanes. Has five isomers: n-Hexane, 2-Methylpentan (isohexane), 3-Methylpentan, 2,3-Dimethylbutane (diisopropyl), 2,2-Dimethylbutane (neohexane). Because of the low octane number (25) hexane - unwanted integral part of synthetic gasoline.
Density - 0,6548 g/cm3, melting point: -95° C boiling point: 68° C.
