How the steel was tempered — autobiographical novel by the Soviet writer Nikolai Ostrovsky, written in 1932. The book is written in the style of socialist realism.
In April 1934 the magazine "Young guard" has begun the publication of the novel, in November of the same year, the first part was published as a separate book, it came out and the second part. The novel immediately became very popular and became the most published work of Soviet literature during the years 1918-1986: 536 total circulation of publications was 36,416 million copies[1][2].
The novel depicts events of the civil war era, the years of recovery of the national economy and socialist construction.
