In addition to the anhydrous nitrate, there are basic aluminum nitrates: AlOH(NO3)2 and Al(OH)2NO3, as well as a number of hydrated salts of Al(NO3)3•xH2O (x= 4, 6, 8, 9), among which the most stable nonahydrate: Al(NO3)3•9H2O.
The connection is used in the textile industry as a mordant in dyeing, for tanning leather, in the manufacture of filaments, as a catalyst in the refining of crude oil, anti-corrosion agent; in the production of insulating papers, heating elements, antiperspirants; in nuclear physics.
