White crystals of the monoclinic system, 1,601 square g/cm3. The reagent is soluble in water (6.3 g in 100 g of water at 15 °C). The air gradually loses NH3, passing in an acidic salt NH4HC4H4O6. Aqueous solutions moldy during storage.
