Potassium iodide, potassium iodide, KI - potassium salt modulational acid.
Colorless crystalline salt, widely used as
the source of iodide ions. Less hygroscopic than sodium iodide. In the light
or when heated in air yellow due to oxidation by atmospheric oxygen
iodide ions to elemental iodine.
Used for redox titration analytical chemistry (iodometry). In small quantities along with Iodate potassium is added to table salt (jodirovannaja salt). Also iodide potassium used for the preparation of light-sensitive photographic materials and in medicine.
Used as an indicator for the detection of certain oxidizing agents, for example, chlorine and ozone. For this purpose, the paper soaked a solution of potassium iodide and starch.
