Slag granulated blast - technological product obtained by
rapid cooling of molten slag generated in the production
iron.
Granulated blast furnace slag is a fine grained
material in the form of porous glassy or crystalline granules with
average size of 2-8 mm.
The density of the slag, depending upon composition, is 2.8-3.0 g/cm3, hardness of 5-8 grains.
The chemical composition of the slag, depending on the composition of the original ore and
types of lost wax casting of cast iron, is within wide limits: Cao - 30-49%;
AL2O3 - 4,5-20%; SiO2 - 33 To 44%; Fe2O3 - 0.3-0.8%; MgO - 1.5-15%; MnO -
0.3-3.0%.
The phase composition of slags presents the crystalline and glassy phases with different ratios of glass and crystals.
The crystalline phase of blast furnace slag: the melilites, dicalcium
silicate, wollastonite, monticellite, forsterite, spinel. The vitreous phase
slag is a calcium-magnesium-aluminosilicate glass
variable composition.
Granulated blast furnace slag obtained from by-product
the production of iron in blast furnace, where iron ore, limestone and coke
melt at a temperature of 1500oC. When melting these materials get
two products - cast iron, and molten slag. Molten slag is lighter and floats on
the surface of cast iron, (see schematic diagram below). Cast
the slag comprises mostly silicates and alumina from the original iron
ore, combined with a small amount of oxides of limestone.
After which the molten slag falls in the installation pridumannoj granulation
where instantly being cooled by water under high pressure breaks down into
glassy, sand-like granules not more than 5 mm in diameter. Quick
cooling prevents the formation of large crystals, and the resulting
granular material includes approximately 95% opaque
calcium aluminosilicates. After drying of the granulated slag is ready for
the production of slag cement.
The chemical composition of granulated blast furnace slag GOST 3476-74):
The content of aluminum oxide (Al2O3), % not less than 8.0
The content of magnesium oxide (MgO), %, not more 15.0
The content of manganese oxide (MnO), %, not more than 2.0
The content of titanium dioxide (TiO2), % not more than 4.0
