The electrolyte

Electrolyte — a substance that conducts electricity due to the dissociation of ions that occurs in solutions and melts, or the motion of the ions in the crystal lattices of solid electrolytes. Examples of electrolytes can serve as aqueous solutions of acids, salts and bases and some crystals (e.g., silver iodide dioxide Zirconia). Electrolytes — conductors of the second kind, substance, electrical conductivity due to which mobility positively or negatively charged ions.

The electrolytes are molten salts, oxides or hydroxides, and also salts, acids or bases in polar solvents, for example, in the water. Known and solid electrolytes.

The main application of electrolytic industry: manufacture of power sources, batteries (galvanic elements), batteries, and electrolytic capacitors.

Often we are faced with electrolytes in batteries operating in various vehicles. Without them, the cars, locomotives, locomotives, etc. are simply not able function.

Depending on the device battery there are:

Acid electrolyte for lead-acid batteries. It is prepared by diluting pure sulfuric acid distilled water.

Alkaline electrolyte for kadavanich and Nickel-iron batteries.

The electrolyte is odorless, does not burn. Consists of an aqueous solution of hydroxide of sodium and lithium (sodium-ion) and lithium hydroxide of potassium (potassium-lithium electrolytes). A common element sodium - and potassium-lithium electrolyte is lithium hydroxide, through which increases the capacity of alkaline batteries and their lifespan.

For charging of alkaline batteries commonly used sodium-lithium and potassium-lithium alkaline electrolytes. They are produced as a liquid solution or solid condition.

Sodium-lithium electrolyte is a clear, yellowish solution of the two alkalis. Such a solution has a density of 1.18 – 1.20 g/l In the solid state sodium-lithium the electrolyte is a mixture of crystalline components gidroksida sodium and lithium. The operating temperature range of the electrolyte is in the range from +5°C to +40°C.

Potassium-lithium electrolyte is a concentrated blend of potassium hydroxide, and lithium. Density solution can be set from 1.20 to 1.41 g/l. Solid potassium-lithium the electrolyte is also a mixture of the crystalline components of the hydroxides of potassium and lithium. Operating temperature range electrolyte is from -25°C to +35 °C.

Electrolyte sodium-lithium liquid store in plastic barrels or cans. Standard capacity is 30 liters. Store alkaline electrolytes is required in enclosed rooms, into a standard package. When storing, you should observe the safety rules, so as alkaline electrolytes are hazardous in contact with skin and mucous membranes shells.

Transportation is carried out road and rail tecnoprom using standard packaging or sealed containers. Transport of electrolytes alkaline is carried out according to regulations on the transport of dangerous goods.
