The so-called forms several hydrates; in industry and in laboratories is used only pentahydrate Na2S2O3 · 5H2O. Get the So-called boiling solution of sodium sulfite with sulfur powder: Na2SO3 + S = Na2S2O3. Used for photographic fixation, determination of iodine in iodometry, in the textile industry and other areas. In medicine they are used as desensitizing, anti-inflammatory and anti-toxic drug. Toxic effect is based on the ability to form So-called non-poisonous compounds: sulfites - with arsenic, thallium, mercury, lead, Rodney - with hydrocyanic acid. The so-called injected mainly intravenously (in the form of 10-30% solution) in allergic diseases, arthritis, dermatoses and poisoning.
