The compiler of the album and the author of the introductory article by I. Antonova. The album is dedicated to
the Italian Renaissance artist, born in Verona, Paolo Veronese.
A collection of his paintings at the State Hermitage Museum has eight
works. In
the album features 22 paintings by Paolo Veronese. From the very beginning to determine the main
activity of Veronese: monumental painting — murals in palaces and
temples, ceremonial easel composition.
The works of Veronese belongs to the late phase of the culture of the Renaissance, to
a new important stage, which followed the period of the highest rise
art in the early sixteenth century, associated with the names of Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael,
Michelangelo and Titian. During this stage of Renaissance culture developed
more difficult than before, historical conditions. By the time in
the middle of the sixteenth century, Veronese took his place among the greatest Italian painters,
of all the States of Italy, only Venice retained its
political independence and part of its former power. This allowed Venice
longer than other areas of Italy trapped under the heel of foreign conquerors,
to preserve the Republican system and those free, open life forms, which
brought the Renaissance. For this reason, it is Venice was
the last major hotbed of Renaissance art and culture, becoming in this
against the successor of the former leading artistic centers of Italy — Florence
and Rome1963..
