Chemical formula: KHCO2
Synonym: Potassium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate
Description
Potassium carbonic acid (potassium bicarbonate) is colorless crystal of monoclinic system, the reagent is stable in air. At 100 °C and even faster at 200 °C decomposes into K2CO3, H2O and CO2.
Potassium bicarbonate is highly soluble in water (24,9% at 20 °C), the reaction solution is very slightly alkaline. Unlike aqueous K2CO3 KHCO3 solution gives no precipitate with salts of magnesium. Very slightly soluble in ethanol (0,05% at 20 °C).
Getting
Potassium bicarbonate (Potassium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, Potassium carbonate acid) is prepared by the interaction of carbon dioxide with solutions of potassium carbonate.
Application
Potassium carbonic acid (Potassium bicarbonate) is used KHCO2
• as a component of the liquid detergent,
• as a source of CO2 in fire extinguishing compositions
• in the food industry in the manufacture of soft drinks, etc.
