Freon R-404A is a long-term alternative refrigerant to R-502. Volumetric cooling capacity is comparable to R-502. When the evaporation temperature -40°C theoretical volumetric cooling capacity is about 5% lower than R-502.
A measure of cooling capacity for the refrigerant R-404A is approximately 5 – 8 % lower than R-502.
Refrigerant R-404A is near azeotropic blend of R-125, R-143a and R-134a (44/52/4 -%). Freon R-404A as the refrigerant R-507 were developed as a substitute substance for R-502. It is mainly used in the production of cold at temperatures of evaporation between -50 and -20 °C.
Refrigerant R-404A is not flammable, is comparable to R-502 toxicity and thermally and chemically stable.
The change in the composition of the mixture R-404A, circulating in the refrigeration system, may lead to deterioration of its energy performance, especially in the circuits with receiver or for a considerable length of communication lines.
Component R-404A serves as R-143a, which in its pure form becomes combustible at pressure of 1*105 PA and a temperature of 177 OS, and in a mixture with air - at a volume fraction of 60 %. At low temperatures for the occurrence of Flammability requires high pressure. Therefore, R-404A should not be mixed with air or use and allow high air concentrations with a pressure being higher than atmospheric or at high temperatures.
