Soap nuts are the fruit of the “soap tree”, growing in warm countries, mainly in India, Nepal and Pakistan.
Round yellow-brown soap nuts (berries) have a diameter of 2-2. 5 cm. Kernels have no value unlike the shell. Nuts to crack, the nucleus discarded, and the shell dried. The drier the shell - so it is harder, so the soap berry tree and are called nuts. In size and appearance resemble soap nuts hazelnut. In a damp environment, soap nut shell softens and becomes sticky.
The nut shells contain organic compounds - saponins (glycosides). This natural surfactants (surfactants) - pastistio complex compounds from the group of plant glycosides.
